Natural wood bowl with yakisugui finish with coconut oil and beeswax

This is an ancient Japanese technique for preserving wood by charring it, burning it, brushing it, washing it and finally hydrating it with oil. Cracks may appear due to the fire, but they are stabilized so they will not get worse.

This combination of wood, shape and finish is not the first time I have made it, in fact people usually like it so I understand that it has something special that makes it attractive to others.

My pieces are for food, display or decoration purposes . The finish with coconut oil and beeswax is completely suitable for food use, if applicable. Hand wash and dry, they need to be moisturized from time to time with coconut oil.

Each piece sits proudly on the Nudo seal that is burned into the base, as a signature and seal of authenticity.
