Hand-turned white beech wood centerpiece

This is another piece I don't usually work with, larger in volume and with thicker edges. I like the contrast of a soft, delicate interior with a harder, rougher exterior.

I could be talking about life, but I'm talking to you about the piece. Maybe that's what I like most.

Yakisugi Finish: This is an ancient Japanese technique for preserving wood by charring it. It is burned, brushed, washed, and finally moisturized with oil. Due to the fire, cracks may appear; when the piece cools, the cracks stabilize and will never worsen.
